Gordon in fourth US Open mens doubles final

Written by Marshall Thomas

HELENSBURGH'S Gordon Reid and partner Alfie Hewett will contest the US Open mens doubles final in New York at 5pm tonight.

The reigning Australian Open and US Open champions reached a fourth successive mens doubles final at Flushing Meadows by beating Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina and Shingo Kunieda of Japan 6-3, 6-3.

The world’s top two ranked doubles players since winning their first Australian Open title in January, top seeds Gordon and Alfie will now face Frenchmen Stephan Houdet and Nicolas Peifer, the same partnership they beat to win the first two of their three US Open titles in 2017 and 2018.

Gordon said: We’ve trained together a fair bit over the last month or so and it’s been important to just sharpen up those things that we were doing really well at the end of last year and the start of this year.

'"So it just feels like we’ve picked up where we left off, and it was great to come back with the win.”
