World Tennis Tour $25k - The Scottish Championships

Written by Maurice McIntyre

PROFESSIONAL tennis returns to Glasgow from tomorrow (Sunday) until next Sunday when Tennis Scotland stages the Scottish Championships — Men’s and Women’s $25k singles and doubles events — at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

Qualifying rounds for both mens and womens singles will be played tomorrow and Monday, with play starting at 10am and continuing into the evening.

The main draws of both events start on Tuesday at 10 am and continue through to the finals which will be played on Sunday February 23 from 11 am.

Saturday’s programme offers singles semi-finals and both doubles finals.

Scotland will have Glasgow player Aidan McHugh taking part, with other Scottish players to be confirmed.

Jack Draper will be the highest ranked British male player in action. Jack, who has just turned 18, is currently ranked 318 in the world which makes him one of the highest ranked players in the world for his age.

The women’s draw will be headed by world no.92 Kristie Ahn from the USA and former world no.45 Anna-Lena Friedsam from Germany.

As always, the standard of tennis will be very high and this is an opportunity to watch the stars of the future in Scotland’s first professional event of 2020.

Entry to the spectators stand is free all week, with a centre café offering snacks for all.
