At 1st couple Bill Ram (pictured) and Phil Hamilton had to battle hard to win the opening set as the home side pushed them all the way to the tie break, which Helensburgh took 7-5.
The burgh pair let the 2nd set run away from them as they went down 6-1, and the deciding set was a cat and mouse affair as they chased each other.
Each player lost their serve until Bill held on to his at 5-4 and clinched the set for a 2 – 1 win.
Iain MacLaren and Stephen Humphreys at 2nd couple took the first two sets 6-4, 6-2, but despite their leading early in the final set their opponents moved up a gear and took it 6-4 to make the final score a 4=2 win for Helensburgh.
The 1st Ladies vets team ended their autumn campaign on a very positive note with a resounding 6-0 win over Newlands.
Katie Hope and Karrie Walters, apart from a lapse of concentration in the second set, were always in control of their match, winning 6-1, 7-5, 6-0.
The 2nd pair of Yolande Trewhella and Liz Wylie, ably deputising for the absent Ann Morison, enjoyed a closer contest but their greater consistency and attacking play saw them collect all three sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
This excellent final result was more than enough to secure the team their place in division one again for the 2019 season.
The ladies 2nd team have had wins against Clarkston and Thorn Park but lost to Titwood. The ladies 3rd team lost recently to Woodend.
